Some Flickr users such as (most pictures NSFW) Gail Orenstein are using Flickr to promote their sites and work by posting articles along with their photos when the upload them.
They have essentially created Flog’s or Flickr Blogs by cross-posting articles from their sites or other sources into the description area of Flickr when they upload. This is great idea! Not only can you have the image hosted on Flickr, saving you valuable bandwidth when you display it on your blog, but you can also drive traffic to your blog by providing the first paragraph of the post you intend to use it in along with a “read more” link back to the post on your blog.
Flickr already provides a means for people to comment on your images, but if the title of the image and the first paragraph of your post are interesting enough their is a good chance that they will click through to your blog and add their comment there. Also, for those people who post other peoples Flickr images on their sites they may link back to your blog instead of just Flickr.
This can also have advantages if you’re a heavy Flickr uploader and people try to find your blog on Google. A search for Gail Orenstein displays her Flickr profile as the number 1 result not her blogs. However, her profile and articles provide multiple links back to the blogs, so people should eventually find their way their.
